Casa Tarradellas strengthens its leadership

Industrial conversion of the Gurb plant

Casa Tarradellas compra la fàbrica de Leche Pascual a Gurb per elaborar mozzarella

Vertical integration as a strategic lever

This operation by Casa Tarradellas highlights the current trend in the agrifood sector towards vertical integration. In a highly competitive market, the company reinforces its brand differentiation by taking control of mozzarella manufacturing, a key ingredient to consolidate its position in the pizza category.

Plant adaptation for mozzarella

Barcelona, 30/04/26
The agreement between Casa Tarradellas and Leche Pascual represents a major shift in the dairy and processed foods category in Spain.

The Osona-based company has decided to acquire the facility located in Gurb, which until now was used for milk packaging. Starting July 31st, works will begin to convert the facilities into a center for the production of mozzarella and soft cheese, a move that allows the company to ensure the supply and quality of a basic ingredient for its pizza business. This action is part of a brand differentiation and supply chain control strategy, avoiding reliance on third parties and securing a superior competitive position against other operators such as Lactalis or Làctia Agroalimentària. Leche Pascual, for its part, will transfer all production to its facilities in Burgos, but has guaranteed that it will continue buying milk from Catalan farmers while operating in the area.

Labor impact and relocation of workers

The purchase of the factory does not entail the subrogation of the employment contracts of the workers at the Leche Pascual plant, given that the production activity will change its nature.

However, Casa Tarradellas has established an orderly transition plan and offered the possibility to relocate employees to its own production centers, maintaining their seniority and current working conditions. Nevertheless, union sources and the workforce have expressed concern about the lack of formal written communication, especially among staff with more seniority. This situation highlights the complexity of transitions within the industrial fabric of the Osona region. With this move, Casa Tarradellas demonstrates a commitment to local employment, while simultaneously optimizing its operational efficiency. For its part, Leche Pascual ensures it will maintain its commitment to the region’s farmers until its definitive departure from the factory.

Financial growth and market leadership

Casa Tarradellas shows an exceptional financial performance, with over 140 million euros in accumulated profits over the last five years.

The only exception to this sustained growth was recorded in 2022, when margins halved due to the high inflationary context and the decision not to fully pass on the cost increases to the end customer. The 2024 financial year closed with a turnover of 1.5 billion euros, representing an 8.8% increase compared to the previous year, and a net profit of 38.47 million euros. This performance consolidates the company as a benchmark in the premium food sector and as a strategic supplier to major distribution chains such as Mercadona. The investment in the new Gurb plant not only reinforces its production efficiency, but also guarantees the supply of strategic products in a complex market environment. Leadership in the pizza category and absolute control of the value chain have been fundamental to this success. Furthermore, continuous expansion into new European markets points to a promising future horizon.
