Driving momentum in hospitality distribution

Makro reinforces its dominance as a strategic partner for the hospitality sector with sustained growth approaching the 2 billion euro mark. The focus on omnichannel distribution, digital ordering, and regional logistics expansion serve as the pillars supporting its 2030 strategic roadmap.

Hospitality leads omnichannel growth

Barcelona, 23/04/26
Makro closed the 2024/2025 fiscal year with sales of 1.875 billion euros, an 8% increase compared to the previous year.

This positive performance resulted in a net profit of 31.8 million euros, nearly doubling the previous year’s earnings. The driver behind this trend is undoubtedly the hospitality client, who now represents 80% of the company’s total business. Success lies in a 100% wholesale strategy that blends physical purchasing with a robust distribution service. This latter channel grew by 15%, fueled by infrastructure investments such as the new Galdakao platform, which required 9 million euros to optimize logistics across Northern Spain.

Ultra-fresh and private label: profitability levers

Category analysis reveals a shift in the professional buyer’s mix toward products with higher added value and cost control.

The ultra-fresh category (meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables) grew by 14.4%, now accounting for a third of total sales. This trend toward high-quality fresh produce is complemented by the penetration of private labels (METRO Chef, Rioba, etc.), which now represent 40% of turnover. For restaurateurs, these brands provide a critical tool for cost competitiveness without compromising professional standards. Furthermore, the “Buy More, Pay Less” policy strengthens Makro’s position as a guarantor of sector profitability amidst persistent inflation.

Digitalization and the €3 billion horizon

The digital transformation of Spanish hospitality is a tangible reality in Makro’s balance sheet.

61% of distribution service purchases are now executed via web or App, far exceeding previous records. This digital ecosystem is bolstered by the equipment marketplace, which grew by 28.4%, and DISH management solutions, which saw a 71% surge in usage. Looking ahead to 2030, the company remains committed to its 3 billion euro revenue target. To achieve this, Makro plans to open a third regional platform in Malaga and new cash & carry units, consolidating a logistics network that prioritizes proximity and operational efficiency for the HoReCa sector.
